Marc Beneteau
Canadians have been a vital part of the North American guitar scene for many years, and when you consider the relative populations of Canada compared to the U.S., it’s clear that guitarmaking is alive and well north of the border. Marc has been building fretted instruments full-time since 1975, and like most Canadian builders, he works alone. Gryphon gets a few each year out of the 25 or so that he completes, and usually we’re looking for models with interesting woods. Beneteau doesn’t add much decoration to his instruments, preferring to allow the materials and the form make the visual statement. Although the sound of his guitars varies depending on the woods and body size, all are characterized by clarity and balance.
