1926 Gibson TB-3 Converted to 5-String
This banjo has a story to tell, so listen up and take
notes! It started out as a late 1925 or early '26 Gibson TB-3
tenor with "spring and ball" shell and tonering.
Bob Palmer made the "hearts & flowers" Style
4 neck circa 1968, plus a matching carved (turned on a lathe)
top-tension style resonator. The owner also purchased a TB-3
resonator to have the option of a different tone (the resonator
is from a slightly later TB-3, so the serial numbers on the
shell and the resonator don't match) The holes in the shell
have been doweled with hard maple, and a new "Tennessee
20" flathead tonering installed. The tube and plate resonator
flange is original, as is the resonator mounting hardware,
coordinating rods, and the finish and decal on the shell.
The tension hoop, armrest, and tailpiece are newish, but with
nickel plating that matches. The neck has a Shubb 5th-string
capo. A great-sounding Gibson Mastertone bluegrass banjo that's
ready to go, and for not much more dough than it costs to
buy a recent used one.
