| Without a doubt, this has to be the most spectacular Brazilian
rosewood we've seen on a D-28, in fact this is more like the
Brazilian you find on a big bucks "luthier" guitar
like a Traugott or a Ryan. And speaking of Jeff Traugott,
that's who did the neck reset and refret on this guitar back
in the early 1990s, shortly after it was purchased from Dexter
Johnson at Carmel Music. Original finish, tuners, pickguard,
bridge, and all other little parts including the nut, which
appears to have been shimmed. Pickguard is very dark, so appears
almost black in these photos, but the tortoiseshell pattern
is obvious in person. There are several nicks and dings to
the top, but only very light shirt-button scratches to the
back, and the finish on the neck and sides is nearly perfect.
There is one small fill on the lower treble side of the back,
right near the backstrip. This is not from damage, but was
done at the factory to fill a shallow knot in the wood (it's
right over the tailblock) Yes, this guitar has been played.
Maybe that's why it's such a great sounding D-28, bright and
balanced but with plenty of bass response. And what would
you pay for rosewood that looks like this if you were buying
a "Martin look-alike?" Ask any antiques dealer or
appraiser, you always save money in the long run when you
buy the real thing!
