Robert Armstrong

A Cowboy's Best Friend

Robert Armstrong's stencil on a Martin D-16GT

Martin D-16GT Cowboy Guitar (left)
The old cowboy guitars were mostly cheesy stencils on cheap guitars. They were still cool. What if we could have a real nice piece of cowboy art on a real nice guitar? Well, bless his hide, Bob has made several cowboy guitar stencils for Collings and Martin and now you can...

The Collings Cowboy (below)

This is the second C-10 Collings Cowboy built. Gryphon didn't get the first one simply because Collings kept it. We were especially impressed with the subtle shading John Alison added around the perimeter of the top. Steve has displayed #1 at several NAMM shows since, collecting photos of the guitar industry's top movers and shakers wearing a kiddie cowboy hat while playing the guitar. It was also featured on the Great Acoustics page of Acoustic Guitar Magazine, and is shown in the Cowboy Guitars chapter of their book, Vintage Guitars.
