Not covered by manufactures warranty. It’s easy to forget how light in weight a truly excellent mahogany Soprano ukulele should be, that is until you pick up this one. The reward for the time and care Martin put into this top-of-the-line mahogany model is a tone that’s loud and crisp. Here are the details: Original finish, tuners, nut, and bridge. Excellent condition that would qualify as mint except for some side cracks in the lower bout of the treble side, which were so well repaired by Frank Ford that you have to look closely to find them. There are very light strumming marks to the face, they could be made to disappear but we hated to disturb the lovely satiny patina on this one. The finish is a rich, reddish brown mahogany, but applied very thinly. The date is an informed guess: it still has the stamp on the back of the headstock, but no decal on the headplate, so it’s before 1932. 1927 was Martin’s big year for ukes, and the tuners are usually associated with mid-‘20s to early ‘30s production, so 1927 is a pretty good bet. Yes, this uke might have been constructed in 1931, but it really doesn’t make any difference. We’ve put it in a new Datt hardshell case, made in Canada.
