Used 1992 Collings 17" Custom Blonde Archtop, 23 1/2" scale
Serial # 36
Our Price: $13,500
This Collings archtop was made by Mr. Bill himself for the original owner, who at that time was playing only guitars tuned in fifths. The guy called Bill to ask him to build a short-scale archtop for that tuning and Bill Collings, in his usual diplomatic style, said "well, I might, if you can actually PLAY." So the customer played for Bill over the phone and Bill admitted that the guy actually could play a guitar tuned in fifths. Bill's bluff was more or less called and he built the guitar. Still, it took Collings about 2 years to complete the job, but it turned out great.
So if you've had a hankering to play a 17 inch archtop tuned in fifths, here's your guitar and you can rest assured there will almost certainly not be another one. It also works in regular tuning, pretty much like a Gibson Byrdland and of course it's louder than two of those played at once.
This guitar did get used and played but the guy is so careful there's hardly a mark on it. He's still playing, but has gone back to regular tuning, and on a normal scale.
