1999 Deering John Hartford
|
| Our Price: $2,750 | Serial # 7098 |
John Hartford came up with the idea of making a resonator banjo that was a hybrid between a bluegrass and old time openback instruments. The Deering company built it as a stock model, and we have one in perfect condition. The big structural distinction is that rather than having a brass tone ring it uses a tropical hardwood called ganadilla. This wood tone ring is cut and sits on the shell just like a flathead tone ring in brass. This give it a plunkier tone than a conventional resonator banjo, one that John thought would make it suitable for both finger picking and frailing. An unusual concept, but then John never did things the way ordinary folks do, that's just one of the reasons we liked him so much. Tom
