1956 Martin 0-18 (restored lower side)
|
| Our Price: $1,495 | Serial # 148663 |
This '56 0-18 is on consignment from the original owner, who bought it new. Unfortunately, in the early 1960s she loaned it to her son's girlfriend, who dropped it. A local violinmaker replaced about 2/3 of the lower side, using a good grade of mahogany, and did a quite good job of it. Several top cracks in the treble side lower bout were also repaired, as was one back crack near the waist. There's weather checking to the lacquer on the top, especially where the finish was touched up over the cracks.
Original tuners, nut, pickguard, bridge, and saddle. Frets are excellent, as is the neck angle, and string action is 3/32" (measured at the 12th fret) on the low E and shy of 2/32" on the thigh E. The original plush lined chipboard case is included.
