c.1964 Ode Long Neck w/Muse brand
With the success on Vega'a long neck Pete Seeger model it was only a matter of time before the other banjo companies came up with their own design. The Muse company of Boulder Colorado produced this back in 1964. It has the same demensions as the Vega model, an 11'' head and a 25 fret 32" scale. The big difference is the cast aluminum shell and integral arched top tone ring. Both the shell and ring are of one casting. While this is not a technique found in higher end banjos the process actually produces a decent banjo tone. I was suprised when I picked it up and played it, it had a nice twang and it wasn't brittle sounding. For a period piece at a third of the price of the real thing this is a nice folk era banjo. Tom
