2007 Newson A-5 oval hole

We have never had an oval hole mandolin from the Michigan builder Paul Newson, so we were excited to get this one in our inventory. Finished in beautiful vintage red and fitted with pearl button waverly tuners, this instrument in highly figured maple is a knock out. It departs from the traditional design with a maple neck and a arched fingerboard which give it a more contemporary feel. The sound, like Newsons in general, is warm and woody needing ony a medium attack to produce it's best tone. This was a characteristic of the original A models and Paul has done an excellent job of reproducing this feature. It is finished in varnish that is developing a cracklure similar to the actual vintage models. Overall, one of the nicest pieces we have had in recently. Tom
