One Day Workshops - Information Page for Teachers/Performers

This is everything that a teacher needs to know about the Saturday workshops:

When: We do almost all workshops on Saturdays at Gryphon because the group rooms are normally in use during the week. Normally they start at 11:00am or 2:00pm and run for 2 to 3 hours, to be determined by the teacher. This is flexible. Teachers often do two workshops during the day.

What we need: We need a paragraph description of the class(es) to be used in an e-mail and the Gryphon Gazette, and also some bio material. This should be sent within days of the workshop being set up, regardless of the date of the workshop. Send to jack@jacktuttle.com

What to charge: This is up to the teacher, but the norm is $30, with $35 for longer workshops. Cost does affect the turnout.

How many students: We have two rooms available, one which would hold about ten students with guitars, the other about twenty. We use the smaller room when possible.

What Gryphon charges: The teacher receives 100% of the first four students, and from the fifth student on, the teacher gets 75% and Gryphon 25%. After the workshop is over, the teacher should seek out help at the counter to settle up financially.

Ticket Sales: Tickets are sold at the counter at Gryphon and students can also reserve a place by calling in with a credit card. Tickets can be sold directly by the teacher but care must be taken to not over-fill the class.

Promotion: If the workshop is scheduled before deadline, we will put it in the Gryphon Gazette mailer, which comes out quarterly. We also post it to our web site and send out an email about it. Often teachers will do some of their own publicity through whatever means they have - internet discussion groups, local associations, radio and concert appearances or whatever.
