Details
A great sounding D-28 with original finish throughout, and one from smack dab in the middle of the World War II era. The lightweight original tuners necessitated by war time restrictions are long gone, and it had Kluson Deluxe style gears when it landed here. We mounted the Golden Age tuners shown because they have celluloid buttons like the originals had, and they have the same screw spacing as well. Best of all, despite their simplicity they work really well. Original pickguard, and all internal bracing is original including the bridge plate. A proper neck reset and refret was done many years ago, and it was given an excellent facsimile of the original ebony bridge, presumably because the original bridge had been cut down to lower string action before the neck was reset. Photos 9 & 10 show the two cracks to the top below the bridge (both repaired). No cracks to rosewood back and sides or to the neck. Also note the strap button screw hole in the center of the neck heel, which we didn't fill and disguise because many players prefer that location. Comes with an excellent '50s/'early '60s Lifton hardshell case, and a cover to preserve it.
