Details
This Dobro Model 55, also called the Standard, was built in California in 1931, just a couple of years after the company was founded. It has a body made of laminated hardwood and the dark finish common to the Model 55 in this period. The body measures 2 ⅞” deep at the heel and 3 ¼”, a slightly shallower depth than Doro used a few years later. This guitar has a round neck but it has been strung up with high, Hawaiian-style action for most of its life. This means that even though the frets are in great shape, the neck angle is not great and it really can’t be played with low action and standard tuning without extensive work. Which is not a tragedy because this is a great sound Dobro that works perfectly for slide style playing. Includes a recent vintage hardshell case.
