Although labeled with the Euphonon stamp, the double internal rods support system inside the body is the same as is usually found on their Prairie State models. The internal rod system was patented 6\/24\/1930 by August Larson. The body is 15 3\/4\" wide, making it larger than an OM, which measures 15” across the lower bout. The body is  3 3\/16” deep at the tailblock. The neck has the Larsons' typical 5-piece construction and it appears to have its original frets, which are worn but still quite playable. It has its origin tuning machines. The large celluloid pickguard is suspended above the soundboard, anchored at the treble-side bridge tip and lower edge of the fingerboard. The top is spruce with a mahogany stain. The date 9\/23\/35 is written in pencil under the top next to the bridge plate.   \r\u003cbr\u003e\r\u003cbr\u003eThere is very little playing wear evident, with some light surface wear to lacquer finish. We couldn’t spot any  but no cracks anywhere. The only change we can find is that someone removed the lacquer from the barrel of the neck, leaving the original finish on the headstock and the heel. This was neatly done, there's no sign the neck profile was altered. This guitar has been in the same collection for many years, so it's probably an early \"speed neck\" treatment done years ago for a player who wanted the grip of unfinished mahogany. The neck angle is somewhat shallow, so with the saddle as low in the tall original bridge as possible string action is still above what is considered \"factory standard.\" We decided that the buyer of a Larson guitar in this condition would probably want to make their own decision about whether or not to change the neck angle. This is a  great sounding guitar with excellent balance and headroom to spare.  \r\u003cbr\u003eCase is a dreadnought shape, obviously not a perfect fit but it's sturdy.\r\u003cbr\u003e\r\u003cbr\u003eEuphonon guitars were made by August and Carl Larson, two brothers who immigrated to America from Sweden in the 1880s. They rarely, if ever, used the Larson name on the instruments they crafted in Chicago, opting instead to build under the labels of Maurer, Prairie State and Euphonon, which were brands they owned.\r\u003cbr\u003e\r\u003cbr\u003eThey launched the Euphonon brand in the mid 1930s as their modern line of guitars, that is, guitars with 14-fret necks, solid headstocks and larger bodies than the parlor style guitars they had built up until then. As near as we can tell, the Larsons never issued a Euphonon catalog so we really don’t know if the Euphonons had model numbers or not. The Larsons developed a method of building the top and back under tension, a technique that gives the guitars a bright, focused tone with a resonant bass and balanced mid-range that sounds like nothing else. There are no markings indicating that this instrument was made by C. F. Martin, the stamp on the back of the headstock and on the inside of the back simply state \"Oliver Ditson Co., Boston, New York\".  But even back then everyone knew Martin was making them.  The Style 0, introduced in 1921, quickly outsold any other Ditson model, and it's easy to see why.  The tone and playability are equal to the higher models, even if they are very plain in appearance.   This example is significantly louder than later Martin mahogany soprano ukes, probably because it's incredibly lightweight. There are some small dings and surface wear, but no cracks or signs of repairs. This specific model from 1940 used a Charlie Christian, with its original “horseshoe” magnet construction mounted under the metal body, which sounds incredible. The condition is great and shows only the typical finish wear and checking that you’d expect for an instrument of this age. This one has the classic 481 bakelite knobs, which are in great shape as well. While it is on the heavy side, it sits comfortably in the lap and feels great to play. Includes the original hardshell case, which is cosmetically worn but structurally sound.\r\u003cbr\u003e\r\u003cbr\u003eNational's Style 4 Tricone is one the most beautiful guitars ever made. The Tricone-style resonator guitar was designed in the mid-1920s by John Dopyera, who wanted to build a louder guitar in those pre-amplified days that retained the warmth and clarity of a wooden acoustic guitar. His groundbreaking design settled on three resonating cones which projected the guitar’s sound so it could be over the sound of dancers and cut through a band or orchestra. Although not as ornately inlaid as more costly Deering models, the Maple Blossom was given all the best parts throughout, including a 3-ply maple shell, cast zinc flange and heavy cast bronze flathead tone ring. This banjo has all of its original parts except for the tailpiece which has been upgraded to a Fults tailpiece, which is far more sturdy and offers an almost unlimited range of adjustment. These tailpieces are not cheap and represent a significant upgrade.There's some light surface wear to the back of the resonator, but fret wear is minimal. A great bluegrass banjo ready for its next assignment. The factory order number (FON) suggests Gibson started building this mandola 1919 but the serial show it was shipped until 1922, which is the date we are going with. This date spread is not uncommon for Gibson’s more unusual models like mandola and harp guitars.\r\u003cbr\u003e\r\u003cbr\u003eExcept for the missing pickguard, which succumbed to celluloid wasting disease years ago, this H-4 is original throughout, and shows no signs of cracks or repairs. The tuners, pearl nut, frets, bridge and tailpiece are all there, ditto the shaped hardshell case, which has the side clamp for the pickguard in the accessories pocket. The beautiful sunburst varnish is original and shows very little wear with the exception of a portion of the soundhole rosette  (discolored by the pickguard) and a couple of spill lines on the top.
