2016 Les Stansell Custom Myrtle Cedar Baritone Used
Les Stansell is a luthier based in Oregon who made his reputation building fine flamenco guitars. A few years ago he started building ukuleles utilizing the techniques he honed during his days as a guitar maker. The top of this custom baritone has three fan braces, a style carried over from the flamenco and classical guitar tradition. This pattern produces a clear, bell-like tone with plenty of sustain. The top is made from Incense Cedar, a species that grows on the West Coast. The back and sides are Myrtle, a lovely wood that resembles koa in look and timbre that also grows on the West Coast. The ukulele has a hand-rubbed shellac finish.
This custom uke in in excellent structural and cosmetic condition. There are a few very light signs of handling that don’t show up in the photos but you can see them in person if you look carefully. There is also a repaired crack in the top below the bridge between the D and G strings that has been repaired and is almost invisible. This is a great sounding baritone ukulele that is remarkably loud while still retaining a sweet, clear tone. Includes a hardshell case.
