Take the Lead! A one-day workshop on basic soloing ideas for the guitar

In this workshop Adam Traum will be teaching basic lead guitar idea development. If you have been playing chords but aren’t sure how to take a lead break when it’s your turn, Adam will be demonstrating his method to successful soloing.

In Adam’s two-hour workshop he will take a few basic songs and start with the melody and scale of the key you are playing in and develops ideas out from there. The overall idea of this lesson is to give early intermediate players a method to develop their own soloing ideas using simple tools and ideas to express themselves.

He will show some “moveable” shapes, cascading scales and riffs that can be used as fills or for soloing ideas. Adam will also emphasize touch, tone and timing as an essential part of this class.

He has taught multiple lessons for Homespun Music Instruction on guitar and mandolin and has produced many Homespun lessons as well as working with Acoustic Guitar Magazine producing educational, performance and gear review videos.

Adam grew up in a musical family in Woodstock, NY, and had a front row seat to legendary performers like John Sebastian, the Band, Rory Block and his father and uncle, Happy and Artie Traum to name a few. He has been playing guitar since he was eight years old and after years of playing in public as a sideline to his job as photojournalist, he became a full time musician in 2006 working as an educator and performing artist.

He is based in Sonoma, California, and works as a solo artist and plays and tours with a few bands including the Ragged But Right Quartet (featuring Colin Gilmore and Pete and Maura Kennedy), Wolf Run (a duo with Jack Hines) and the Straw Wattles. He also performs with his father Happy Traum a few times a year.
