Janie Rothfield – Fiddle Workshop

This fiddle class is for fiddlers/violin players with several years of experience playing who can play at a moderate to intermediate speed in a jam. You will learn a variety of traditional fiddle tunes in several key and alternate tunings, with a focus on rhythm and bowing and those other important nuances that are typical of traditional Southern style fiddling. Janie will also share techniques for playing chords and back-up, how to improve tone, play by ear and how to pick up tunes easier, quicker and have more fun at a jam.

You will learn a variety of Old Time tunes in different keys and alternate tunings, rhythm and bowing and those other nuances that are typical of traditional Southern style fiddling, chords and back-up, how to get great tone, play by ear and how to pick up tunes easier and quicker!

Please bring your recording device (audio and video is fine), a notebook, a seat cushion (always handy) and be ready for fun with old time music.

ABOUT JANIE ROTHFIELD
Janie Rothfield is an award winning clawhammer banjo player and powerhouse fiddler who has been playing Old Time Music “forever”! Janie got her start playing with older generation fiddlers and banjo players from New England, North Carolina and Quebec and since high school has had bands that played music rooted in Traditional American and Celtic music styles. She is known for her melodic and rhythmic style on both fiddle and banjo, and for her old time style original tunes. She has made over 12 recordings and her recording, OUT OF THIN AIR, features her own compositions and songs. Her music has been played around the world and she has performed throughout the United States, England, Scotland, Cape Breton, Canada, Europe and Australia!
