In the past year Pete has been working on a book for Acoustic Guitar magazine on blues guitar in open tunings. Almost all of the prewar blues artists played in open tunings an in this workshop we will take a look at some of the highlights: including licks and phrases from Robert Johnson, Charley Patton, Memphis Minnie, Bukka White and others. We will play in Open D (DADF#AD) and open G (DGDGBD) tunings. The focus will be on finger style, so having some familiarity with alternating and monotonic bass is helpful.
In addition to performing, Pete is a well-respected guitar teacher and writes regularly for Acoustic Guitar Magazine. He has been teaching for over twenty years. He has written seven books of guitar instruction, including A Guide to Acoustic Blues Guitar, A Guide to Bottleneck Slide Guitar, Improvisation and Variations for Fingerstyle Blues Guitar, and the CAGED System for Guitar. Most of these titles are available from his educational website:
