Radim Zenkl – Beginning Pennywhistle and a Mini-Concert

No experience necessary. We will cover all basic techniques such as hand positions, breathing, over blowing, good tone production, tonguing, vibrato, tremolo, three major and three minor scales, English and Irish ornamentation, and learn a few tunes. Bring your pennywhistle in the key of D or borrow one from the teacher (several loaner instruments are available). Printed materials will be handed out, audio recording is encouraged. Intermediate/Advance students are welcome too and will be given individual advice and assignments. As a part of the St. Patrick’s Day celebration, Radim will perform several Celtic pieces.

About Radim Zenkl
Music performer, composer and instructor. Originally from the Czech Republic, Radim resides in California since 1989. Radim is the US Mandolin Champion and remains at the cutting edge of the mandolin’s future. Besides the mandolin he also plays a variety of wind instruments, including the Irish pennywhistle (tin whistle). He has performed with some of the top musicians of the Irish music scene, such as John Doyle, Mary Bergin, Seamus Eagan and others.
