Bio: I’ve been playing guitar since 1975 where I received my education on the bandstand. After playing in various Rock, Blues and Country bands I settled on straight ahead down home blues. I consider myself a American Roots musician (blues, swing, rock-n-roll, country, soul, jazz, etc…) with a bluesy accent.
My influences: Too many to list but a short list is Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry, Johnny Cash, Howlin’ Wolf, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, The British Invation bands, The Band, Lightin’ Hopkins, Willie Nelson, Louis Armstrong, The three Kings (B.B., Freddie and Albert) Patsy Cline, Aretha Franklin, Charlie Patton, Hank Williams, Elmore James, T-Bone Walker, Ray Charles, James Brown, The Rolling Stones, Ry Cooder, all the New Orleans piano players, The Meters, Clapton, Peter Green, Fats Waller, The Who, Booker T and the MG’s, Bo Diddley and the list goes on…
I am currently playing with Jan Fanucchi and we have performed at the Monterey Blues Festival, the Sonoma Blues Festival, Redwood City Blues Festival, We can also be seen every month at The Saloon in SF and you can catch us at various clubs in the Bay Area such as Biscuit and Blues, Poor House Bistro, Club Fox.
I have performed with Steve Freund, Johnny Nitro, Beverly Stoval, Terry Hiatt, and have opened shows for Elvin Bishop, Maria Muldaur, Chris Cain, Tommy Castro, Joe Louis Walker and The Boss Talkers, Anson Funderburg and the Rockets.
What I teach:
Blues (Delta, Post War Chicago, Texas, Memphis, West Coast Swing) and Slide guitar (open G and open D). For more info on the blues go to ww.Jebe.net
I also take beginning students and my approach is to start with some basic chord shapes and strumming patterns and then apply it to a simple song.
For the more advance student I assess their abilities and give them the tools needed to help them accomplish their goals.
My approach is that music is an art form and like any other art form you are learning a new language. To give someone the tools to communicate in this language is something they can take with them for the rest of their life.
Instruments: My current favorites guitars are a Vinetto SC 56 WG, Collings I-35 Deluxe, National Tricone and a parts Strat (for slide) that Brian Michael put together for me. My favorite amps are a Fender narrow panel tweed Deluxe and a 65 amps SoHo.
