Lap Steel Guitars. Lots and Lots of Lap Steel Guitars.

Lap steel guitars come in more shapes and sizes than any other fretted instrument and at the moment it feels like we have an example of just about every single one of them. We have great guitars from famous makers like Gibson, Fender, Rickenbacker, Oahu and Harmony as well as a few oddballs like Nioma and Dickerson. Lap steel guitars are fascinating because they are the original electric guitar and most innovations, many of which have become standard features, were tried out there first.

The lap steels we have right now range in date from the mid-1930s up through the 1960s. These guitars were produced in large numbers during the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s and were used in a wide variety of musical styles butith the rise of rock and roll in the later 1950s, the lap steel guitar’s popularity in the mainstream began to fade. But the lap steel guitar found a niche in country music, particulary in Western Swing. And from time time a player like David Lindley or Ben Harper will use one to great effect. So stop on by and check out our stock. Maybe your next guitar is hanging on the wall here at the store..

The highlights include a very clean 1959 Gibson Skylark, a circa 1937 Vega Vitar, a 1959 Supro Comet and a 1952 Oahu Iolana, which is a classic example of mid-century modern design.
