Details
Gryphon used to sell a lot of new Red Diamond mandolins, as Don MacRostie was a pal, and although we didn't sell this one new we had its mate #95. But it didn't take the mandolin community long to figure out how great they were and soon MacRostie had a waiting list of retail customers and had to wait for the occasional used Red Diamond to show up. And that's the way it's been ever since. This example has a little fret wear but only very minor finish wear. The varnish finish is very thin, so this has been given careful handling and the finish has settled into the pores of the wood giving it a nice patina. It's loud when you want it to be but it's also one of those mandolins that responds to a light touch and is capable of conveying a wide tonal range.
