Details
Hard to believe this Collings F-5 will turn 20 next year, as it's seen very little use but that's a bit more understandable when you know it was part of a sizable collection of high-grade bluegrass instruments. There's only the lightest fret wear on the lower frets, some hard-to-find surface lines in the lacquer on the back, and very light finger scuffs to the face you need bright light to detect. Super tight figure to the curly maple back, sides, and neck. While this MF5 hasn't been out seeing much use, the finish has settled with time and the result is a nice, subtle patina. A twenty years-old Collings this clean has a strong "why buy a new one?" vibe, and after a few minutes playing this one that feeling gets even stronger.
