Details
This ’59 ES-355 was made in 2004 and it’s part of Gibson’s Historic Collection. This is an accurate recreation of the classic model, which was a cosmetically upgraded ES-335. Because it was their fanciest semi-hollow thinline, Gibson tended to build them with all the available bells and whistles, including Bigsby or Vibrola vibratos, the six-position Varitone tone control and stereo wiring. Consequently, the mono version with a three-way switch and a stopbar tailpiece is the rarest version. This “stripped-down” version is the most appealing one to modern guitarists and, happily, this is version Gibson has chosen to reissue.
This example is almost ten years old but it shows only very minor signs of use. It has been played, so there is a hint of fret wear, and there are some light scuffs to the pickguard, but what we usually call "surface wear" is hard to detect. The maple in the top and back has some nice figure. It’s fitted with a pair of ’57 Classic humbuckers, which do a great job of capturing the PAF vibe. Includes the COA and all the original paperwork included along with original Custom Shop case.
