Details
This Gibson F-5 Master Model was crafted in 2004 and has a label signed by Charlie Derrington and dated 5/27/2004. Derrington, as many of you know, was the craftsman chosen to restore Bill Monroe’s F-5 after it was badly crunched. He knew as much about Lloyd Loar mandolins as just about anyone out there and the mandolins he made for Gibson before his untimely death really captured the sound and feel of those classic instruments. Since this is a "distressed" model, with a D prefix to the serial number, it's hard to tell what is wear from actual use and what wear marks were added by Charlie. However the fret wear suggests this did get played a fair amount and the previous owner is an active picker, so we'll let the photos tell the story. There's no sign of any repairs or changes and it comes with a Calton case. Photos in the case are of various mandolin community heavyweights with this instrument, including John Reischman and Derrington himself.
