Details
Michael Hornick was the first guy the founders of Santa Cruz Guitar Co. hired to help them meet demand. Although he hadn't trained as a luthier Hornick learned quickly and a few years later started building on his own. Since he worked fairly slowly and primarily by hand, not to mention solo, there just never were very many Shanti guitars made per year. Gryphon carried new ones when we could get them, but then the word got out and Michael didn't need a middleman as he was hopelessly backordered.
This Brazilian rosewood SF, with an Adirondack spruce top, was obviously a top-of-the-line effort (this model is essentially a small jumbo, 16" wide across the lower bout). It sounds great (we've never heard a mediocre Shanti), and is in excellent condition. A small crack in the back, and another in the cutaway, were repaired by the builder. It has an LR Baggs Anthem pickup, with convenient finger wheel controls just below the lip of the soundhole. Comes with its original blue Calton flight case (those cases now cost over $1200 new btw). We hope you can come in and play it in person!
