Details
This Stelling has a Tony Pass block-construction "Lost Timbre" 600TS shell, and combined with Stelling's usual high-quality flathead ring, cast flange and other metal parts, it has the tone that put Stelling banjos on the bluegrass map back in the mid-1970s.The Golden Cross was one of the early Stelling models, and was continued right up until Stelling ceased building banjos last year.
This one is in excellent condition, almost no visible fret wear and only very light surface squiggles to the resonator, probably from shirt buttons, that you need strong light to find. There's mild tarnish to the nickel plating that could easily be polished but it lends a vintage look that's kind of appealing. Lots of figure to the maple neck and resonator with Stelling's subtle shading.
