This Stratocaster was crafted in 2009 in Fender’s Custom Shop by Master Builder Dennis Galuszka. It’s number 10 of a limited run of 10 and it’s a recreation of the well-worn 1950s Strat used by the versatile guitarist Greg Koch. (The back of the headstock features Koch’s signature.) The swamp ash body has a heavy relic nitrocellulose lacquer finish in transparent Daphne Blue that Galuszka faded to Seafoam Green.
The figured maple neck has a chunky U-shape that is 1 5/8” wide at the nut with a 9.5” fretboard radius. It’s fitted with a trio of ‘50s NOS single-coil pickups that were hand-wound by Abigail Ybarra. This guitar has a 5-way switch with two push-pull tone pots that give you a variety of out-of-phase sounds and all 7 pickup combinations. Other unique features include a white pearloid pickguard, gold Sperzel locking tuning machines and a gold Fender bridge with six individual saddles. Because of the heavy relic treatment, it’s difficult to say which nicks, dings and scratches are original but judging from the lack of fret wear, it doesn’t look like this guitar was played very much.
