Details
Northfield’s Artist Series mandolins are built with meticulous attention to detail from the finest tonewoods. This particular example has a carved Italian Alpine spruce top and Northfields’s 5-bar bracing system, a unique variation on the classic two tone-bar configuration. We find the 5-bar bracing produces is very responsive mandolin with a strong fundamental with a focused, sparkling upper register. The finish is spirit varnish which is softer and more flexible than nitrocellulose lacquer.
Playability is enhanced with a fully radiused fretboard. This mandolin has Northfield’s wide nut option, so if you find your fingers a bit cramped on a typical 1 1/8" mandolin neck this 1 3/16” nut may win over your left hand very quickly. The surprising thing is that for most of us these WN necks don't feel wide at all when you're playing, you just have a bit more room and fewer muffed notes. The Artist Series mandolins were developed with extensive input from Mike Marshall, are produced in limited numbers and never stick around for long. Includes Northfield’s Airloom Recurve hardshell case.
