Used 1953 Epiphone Triumph Regent Arch-Top Guitar Used
A great Epiphone jazz guitar, mostly original but upgraded with a Johnny Smith mini-humbucker mounted to the end of the fretboard, with a Gibson-style pickguard with volume pot and mini-output jack. Original Epi tuners and Frequensator tailpiece, adjustable rosewood bridge also appears to be original. Frets appear to be original, or are at least the original size, showing some wear but with lots of life left. Is the pickup and pickguard an original Gibson combo? We're not sure and the floating Johnny Smith pickup and guard-mounted pot and mini-jack has been such a popular set-up for so many years, and copied so often, we'd rather not make any claims and instead just state the obvious: the pickup works well and sounds great. The gold plating on the pickup cover and the braided cable connecting pickup to volume pot show tarnish and some "greening," so we're assuming the celluloid pickguard, or its binding, is beginning to off-gas. Everything appears solid, and while there is typical lacquer checking to the original finish there are no cracks in the carved spruce top. An excellent acoustic arch top, with the warm fat tone when plugged in that jazz players crave and a comfy weight of 6 lbs. Nice long mini-jack cable included.
