New Jazzmaster with stock bridge

The stock bridge is one of the reasons Jaguars and Jazzmasters weren’t very popular initially. The strings pop out of the many grooves in each saddle, and as a result your string spacing and tuning is compromised.

With the Mastery Offset model, you can see that the strings have nowhere to go side to side. The grooves are deeper, smoother, and overall have less surface area, so there is less friction when tuning and using the vibrato. This means you’ll stay in tune longer.

Another big part about the Mastery design is the way the strings run from the back of the bridge to the vibrato. You can see in this side by side comparison that the Fender has a solid arced shape, whereas the Mastery has relief cuts for each string. On some guitars with the stock bridge, it is quite common to see the strings leaving the saddle and rubbing the back of the bridge. This friction leads to even more tuning problems.

We highly recommend doing the Mastery upgrade to not only Fender offset models, but all the models they offer. Each design address original hardware limitations and are beautifully machined, non-invasive upgrades made in the states.

Here’s the full description from Mastery’s website:

Problems with your current bridge? You’re not alone. Since its conception in 2008, the multi-patented M1 and M2 Mastery Bridge remains the industry leader and most trusted Offset bridge in the hands of touring musicians around the globe. Our original Offset bridge eliminates the buzzing associated with previous saddle designs. Your strings won’t fall out of their grooves — no matter how hard you play. All of our Offset bridge saddles are made of solid brass. Since solid brass can begin to show wear within hours of vibrato use, we plate them with a unique, self-lubricating hard chrome plating not found on any other guitar bridge.

The patented non-rocking post design along with Mastery’s patented two saddle design has a dramatic effect on the transfer of string-to-body energy, giving your guitar much greater resonance that you’ll even hear acoustically. AND THAT’S JUST THE START. Check out our specs page to learn more, and see why veteran guitarists such as Nels Cline & Jeff Tweedy of Wilco, Elvis Costello, Troy Van Leeuwen, Bill Frisell, Thurston Moore & Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth, as well as thousands of others are now using the Mastery Bridge.

For detailed information on how our bridge works, please visit our Specs page.

All of our products are luthier-designed and precision machined of the highest quality, non-corrosive materials in Minneapolis, MN.
