Details
A very nice, solid D-28 with NO issues, and all original except for the bridge. No cracks at all to the back, sides, and neck. Typical pickguard shrinkage crack beneath the high E string just in front of the bridge. There is a 1 inch hairline seam separation in the top joint behind the bridge, but this is not a crack and is hard to see. Original Kluson "Super" tuners, original nut and pickguard, original finish throughout with no overspray or touchup anywhere. Neck was reset and refretted by Gryphon. Bridge plate and all braces look like they've never been touched since it left the North Street factory, so all the hide glue joints are intact. The bridge has been replaced and is very slightly oversized, probably to correct for intonation issues (many late '40s/early '50s Martins have bridges too far back, to get a through-cut saddle in the proper position the saddle often has to be perched on the leading edge of the bridge, which then cracks as a result). There are some very minor scratches to the finish around the perimeter of the bridge.
Yes, there are nicks and dings to the original lacquer on this D-28, but there are no signs of "climate abuse" or careless handling. Lots of volume, and balanced tone with plenty of "cut" to the high strings, so a great D-28 for flatpicking or any rhythm styles where you need more than just booming bottom end.
