Details
This 000-16 does not conform to the specs found on later versions with virtually the same model code. From 1986 through 1994, there were many Style 16 models offered as limited runs or NAMM show specials, and these rarely appeared in Martin catalogs. Unlike the Style 16 models Martin offered after 1994, earlier Style 16 versions, such as this one, were made using the same hand-fitted dovetail and old-style X bracing as Martin's Standard Series models. This 000-16 has scalloped top bracing and vintage-style "diamonds & squares" fretboard inlays. And it has the long 25.4" string scale usually associated with Dreadnoughts and OM models, plus faux tortoiseshell binding that later appeared on mahogany models in the Vintage Series. Martin was undergoing a lot of changes at this time, but this guitar is from before the new-to-Martin CNC technology was used to overhaul all Style 16 models, which initially were given a T suffix (for "Technology") to the model code and got a thicker "cross-link" finish.
Think of this 000-16 as a 000-18 with scalloped top braces, maple bridge plate, plainer top binding, and long scale. This example is a one-owner guitar, is original throughout, and has little fret wear and almost no playing wear to its surface.
