Details
This 28 years-old Martin probably qualifies for a "least used" award of some kind, as there's not even a whisper of fret wear and the pickguard still has the clear plastic film that was on it when it left the Nazareth factory. But it's been tuned up all those years, and sounds like it's been storing a lot of potential.
This example is from the first year the D-40 was introduced, and it's essentially Martin's Dreadnought version of their popular J-40. Another way to think of it is like a D-41, but without the pearl border perimeter of the top. Thanks to scalloped top bracing and dark (hard) straight-grained rosewood back and sides it has that classic rosewood Martin Dreadnought tone and volume in a classy package, one that looks like it's just been unwrapped!
