Details
Since its inception in the mid 90’s, the 16 series was an avenue for Martin to experiment with emerging technologies - hence the T (technology) designation. These instruments were among the first Martins to be built with a mortise and tenon neck joint, which offered a functional alternative to their usual dovetail method. These guitars came with a paired down aesthetic; while they look a bit like their 18-style siblings, they instead feature a subtle and understated semi-gloss finish. But for all these divergences from Martin’s usual design, it’s still delivers the quintessential Martin tone; ultimately, making it one of the most affordable all-solid American made Martin on the market.
Cosmetically, this guitar is in excellent condition. Despite the very thin semi-gloss finish, there isn’t a significant amount of wear to be seen. Looking over the instrument critically, you can find a couple random dings on the back and sides and a tiny ding on headstock. Otherwise, there are relatively few indications that the instrument was played, and as a result, the frets show very little wear and still have plenty of life in them.
