Details
This is Taylor’s second signature model in their Gold Label series, and this time they’ve teamed up with award-winning singer-songwriter Ben Harper. Harper is an accomplished guitarist of many styles. The features of the Gold Label’s take on the Grand Concert body makes for a perfect workhorse guitar for someone like Harper, and when he’s not playing slide on a Weissenborn, this smaller body guitar would be an easy choice for just about every other playing style.
This 512e Gold Label’s deeper body provides more low-end projection, while the mahogany back and sides give a punchy midrange for leads. The fanned V-bracing allows the top to vibrate more, giving it a warm and woody tone. The torrefied spruce top adds to the woodiness and gives it a nicely broken-in tone. And just like the rest of the Gold Label guitars, this one features the Action Control Neck, which makes adjusting the neck angle a breeze. The Honduran rosewood fingerboard and headstock veneer provide a fresh take on a vintage inspired aesthetic. This one is finished in a golden-brown shaded edgeburst, per Harper’s request, and is outfitted with a cream pickguard and binding that ties the whole look together. Unlike the other Gold Labels, this guitar comes equipped with Taylor’s new Claria pickup with sound hole mounted controls.
This is one of those models that truly speaks for itself, and no matter what style you throw at it, it seems to handle it all. It comes in the new Gold Label Hardshell case in British Coco.
