Details
This Collings MT2 was built in Austin, Texas in 2004 and judging by the moderate fret wear it didn't spend its last 20+ years in a case. There's only light playing wear to the finish on the body, but finish on the neck barrel was removed, giving it the "speed neck" treatment. (Quite a few players, including Sam Bush, have often preferred the feel of an unfinished maple neck). Another change was the upgrade to gold Waverly "spear-point" tuners, and installation of an ebony strap button to the treble side of the neck heel. Any need to plug it in is covered by the addition of a K & K Twin pickup. Maybe it's the playing hours, or maybe credit should go to its age, but this is a great-sounding mandolin with a bigger, warmer bass response than a typical F-hole A model.
The MT2 is the deluxe version of the Collings A-style mandolin. It has a full body gloss finish, highly figured maple back, sides and neck, ivoroid binding on the top, back neck and headstock. It features an Adirondack spruce top, a one-piece, Eastern flamed maple back, and a full body gloss lacquer finish. It has ivoroid binding on the back, headstock and fretboard. Includes the original hardshell case.
