Details
This Guild X-350 Stratford was made in 1961. A few years ago, this guitar was sent to Chris Mirabella, a fine luthier who is the go-to guy for repair and restoration work on D’Angelicos, D’Aquistos and other vintage archtops. Mirabella did a complete refinish in natural and it's safe to say that the finish is better now than when it was new. He also replated all the gold hardware.
The X-350 was Guild’s answer to the Gibson ES-5 and the Epiphone Zephyr Emperor Regent, both of which had three pickups. In fact, the X-350 shares more than a little DNA with Epiphone. When Gibson purchased Epiphone in 1957, many employees opted not to make the move to Kalamazoo and found work with Guild in New Jersey. Which explains why this guitar has the same push button pickup selector as the Epiphone. This example is fitted with a trio of Franz single child pickups, and this was the last year Guild used them before switching to DeArmonds. It also has the Kolb tuners with the diamond shape buttons. Includes a Hoffee carbon fiber case.
