One of our favorite Martin models is the OM-18, but for some reason Martin doesn’t offer one in either the Standard or Authentic series. So we decided to custom order one and mix some features from the two lines. Like an Authentic, this beauty has an Adirondack spruce top and rosewood binding. The Standard features include an adjustable truss rod and an inlaid rather through-cut saddle. We decided to add an Ambertone sunburst because why not?
Mahogany bodied OM's are appreciated for their crisp and bright tone and work well for slick fingerpicking where the player wants every note to be heard. These guitars also have plenty of snap and growl for acoustic blues, and if you're playing back-up the Adirondack top gives plenty of bass response. Remember that although an OM is the same body shape and size as a 14-fret 000, OMs have the long (25.4") string scale, which gives them more power than a typical 24.9" scale 000 and gives the bass strings better tone when you're using an open tuning, or drop-D, for instance.
