Details
A remarkably original and fully playable early Martin ukulele, made for Ditson in the unique "dreadnought" body shape. There are no markings indicating that this instrument was made by C. F. Martin, the stamp on the back of the headstock and on the inside of the back simply state "Oliver Ditson Co., Boston, New York". But even back then everyone knew Martin was making them. The Style 0, introduced in 1921, quickly outsold any other Ditson model, and it's easy to see why. The tone and playability are equal to the higher models, even if they are very plain in appearance. This example is significantly louder than later Martin mahogany soprano ukes, probably because it's incredibly lightweight. There are some small dings and surface wear, but no cracks or signs of repairs. The cluster of marks to the back of the neck, behind the nut, are a mystery, since there is no end pin it was probably never equipped with a strap so our guess is they are from a player's ring.
