The 16 Series guitars from Martin have undergone a thoughtful and practical revamp, creating an identity and style that is unique to the 16 Series. The DSS-16E is a take on the 14-fret sloped-shoulder dreadnought. This model is done in an attractive 1935 sunburst gloss finish over the spruce top, and matched with a satin finish over the mahogany back and sides. Not only does it look great, but it sounds great as well. This guitar has punchy mids, bright and full trebles, and big but clear bass frequencies. With its scalloped x-bracing, it truly blends the vintage-inspired Martin tone with modern sensibilities that would sit well in any mix. The playability is particularly impressive, with the short 24.9” scale, it has very comfortable string action, without compromising the punchy dreadnought sound.
Like in previous years, these guitars have remained a stage-ready acoustic-electrics, but are now equipped with L.R. Baggs Element piezo pickups, which sound great with just about any type of amplification you’ll plug them into. These come stock with Martin’s new Era Legacy strings, that were voiced alongside these new 16 Series guitars. If you’re a songwriter, a flatpicker, or mostly a rhythm player, this model presents a choice that could likely handle it all. It comes with Martin’s padded plush gig bag.
