Details
We really love this Northfield octave mandolin. It’s an incredibly playable and great-sounding example of the style. The carved spruce top paired with maple back and sides gives it a distinctive, guitar-like look, reminiscent of small archtop guitars from the 1930s. That hybrid construction also contributes to a strong, gutsy tone with plenty of depth, making it a perfect complement in a mandolin ensemble where you want warmth and low-end presence alongside the trebles. The 22" scale length makes this an easy and intuitive transition for guitar players while still feeling comfortable for mandolinists, just tuned an octave lower. The overall design sits very naturally in the lap, and the balance and ergonomics make it a joy to play for long sessions. As you’d expect from Northfield, the build quality and fit-and-finish are excellent, capped off with a tasteful sunburst. It comes with a fiberglass hardshell case.
