Details
The D-17 is a new model in Martin's " refreshed" Standard Series, and shouldn't be confused with earlier Martins with the same model code. Although the vintage-inspired appointments are what you see, it's the improved playability and tone that make it a worthy competitor to other Dreadnoughts regardless of the brand on the headstock . It's made in Nazareth with a satin-finished solid mahogany body, including Sitka spruce Golden Era (GE) top bracing as featured on the Modern Deluxe Series. Playability is enhanced with a select hardwood neck (mahogany) with a modified low oval profile and thinner ebony fingerboard with a gently beveled edge. Vintage-inspired details include diamonds & squares neck inlays, a sleeker heel, faux tortoiseshell pickguard, and nickel open gear tuners. Martin now offers several all-mahogany models, including a 000-17 with these same features, but in our opinion this D-17 leads the pack by a considerable margin when it comes to both tone and volume.
