Details
We never expected Taylor to make a Bajo Quinto but now that we’ve had a chance to play one, boy, are we glad they did! For those of you who don’t know what it is, the Bajo Quinto is a 10-string bass guitar that is tuned in fourths to A-D-G-C-F, with the A and D doubled in octaves and the G, C and F tuned in unison. The Bajo Quinto is used as the rhythm instrument in a number of Mexican musical styles, particularly Norteño and Tejano music. And while it’s well-suited to Mexican music, it has a unique sound that will find a home in many other styles. All it takes is an adventurous musical spirit.
Taylor’s Somos 260ce-K DLX Bajo Quinto has a solid koa top and layered koa for the back and sides, a combination that produces a crisp, balanced tone with a focused bass and ringing trebles. It’s based on the classic dreadnought body shape and has Taylor’s own C-Class bracing, a cantilevered variant of their V-Class voicing architecture. It ‘s fitted with a EMG ACS soundhole pickup and includes deluxe hardshell case.
