Details
This American Deluxe Telecaster is among the first of its kind, as Fender began moving away from their “Plus” models. New to these instruments in 1998 was their use of new Fender-branded Noiseless pickups, phasing out the previous noiseless Lace Sensors. These models came with two Vintage-Noiseless Telecaster pickups (Neck and bridge) and a Vintage-Noiseless Stratocaster pickup in the middle. Not only could you get more of a Strat-sounding “quack” in the in-between positions, but these models came with a mini-toggle switch allowing for all seven pickup combinations.
Luckily, this particular Tele, done in a Crimson Red Transparent finish, has been completely unaltered and remains all-original. The Deluxe models of this era definitely have performance necks. The shape feels substantial but is fast-playing, and the 9.5” fingerboard radius makes it easy to play and bend notes all the way up the neck. Also, on the topic of comfort, the body has a tummy-cut contour and feels great and makes it easy to sit or stand with.
This guitar is in great structural shape, with normal wear and tear from 28 years of being played. There are dings and scratches here and there, with some buckle rash, and some finish worn off of the fingerboard, but it has never had or needed any major repairs. This is a hum-cancelling, versatile, and great-sounding Telecaster with tons of mojo that would sound great for just about any genre of music. It comes with its original molded plastic hardshell case.
