We special ordered the Collings OM3 with a short scale and Style 42 abalone purfling for a dash of elegant bling. We find the short scale gives the guitar a little warmer, mellower sound than a long scale. Also, because there is less string tension, difficult chord positions are easier to reach and string bends are easier. As with all of the guitar that Collings builds, the fit and finish is impeccable. The well balanced bass to treble response makes the OM body shape popular with fingerstyle guitarists while flatpickers find the single note clarity appealing. The compact shape makes the Collings OM equally easy to handle onstage or when sitting on the couch.
