Paul Reed Smith’s SE series guitars are less expensive, Asian-made versions of their classic models and offer great bank for the buck. The Silver Sky SE is the result of a close collaboration between John Mayer and Paul Reed Smith and is a fresh take on the tried-and-true S-style guitar. This Silver Sky SE was made in Indonesia and features a trio of PRS’s 635JM “S” single-coil pickups, a poplar body, and a rosewood fingerboard. The 635JM “S” single-coil pickups are very balanced across all three, and capture the broken-in “imperfections” of vintage pickups, making them lively and rich. The neck is very comfortable, and the 8.5” fingerboard radius is complemented by larger frets, which makes for a great feeling neck. This model from 2022 is very clean and the frets have almost no wear in them. We are fans of the Silver Sky in general and this SE version is a great-sounding and playing example at a price that won’t break the bank. It comes with its original PRS gig bag.
