Details
Here’s a great sounding early J-50 (Y prefix to FON code) with its original tuners, pickguard and bridge. The back, sides, and neck have the original finish and no cracks. The top was given some amateurish overspray a long time ago (when the top probably already showed playing wear) and there's been more playing wear around the pickguard and soundhole since. There are three top cracks that were repaired some time ago and it has the usual pickguard shrinkage crack above the bridge (under the high E string). All the interior bracing is original, but an under-saddle pickup was installed at some point so there's a small hole in the bridge plate and endpin hole was enlarged.
There are signs some loose braces were glued previously, and two loose back braces were glued at Gryphon. It has had a recent refret, not by us, and there is only light fret wear. The big draw with this J-50 is how it sounds, as it delivers that iconic Gibson mahogany slope-shoulder tone, and lots of it. Another plus is the neck shape, the classic "meaty D profile" that defines 1950s Gibsons, both electric and acoustic. Comes with a recent Gibson Montana hardshell made for this shape.
