Details
While it shows some surface wear to the top, for being 60 years old this 00-18 is in great shape. The bridge has been replaced with a proper replica, it's had a neck reset and refret, and the new Grover Sta-Tite tuners are reissues of what came on it originally (but with a better gear ratio). The pickguard shrinkage crack has been repaired. What looks like a crack in the middle of the top, below the bridge, is actually just a glue seam failure where the two halves of the book matched top were put together. And the two much lighter sections of the top, on either side of the lower bout, are just what that Sitka spruce tree gave us. This 00-18 was made just before Martin switched both the binding and the pickguard on Style 18 from faux tortoiseshell celluloid to black. The finish is original throughout, as is all the internal bracing including the bridge plate. The stuff that these older Martins usually need, such as a neck reset, have been done, this 00-18 sounds great and is ready for another long shift.
