Here’s a great example of an early-’70s Stratocaster in classic three-tone sunburst. The 1971 models mark the tail end of the 4-bolt neck era. By later that year, Fender had transitioned to the 3-bolt neck plate and Micro-Tilt system. This one sounds great, feels great, and is very resonant. Everything is original except for the 5-way switch, which replaced the stock 3-way (a common and practical upgrade), and the tremolo arm, which was lost and replaced at some point. The pots date to the 52nd week of 1970, and the neck stamp reads “22 MAR71B,” consistent with early 1971 production. The original frets show some wear, but they’re still playable and feel comfortable if you prefer to keep them as-is. If you’re after a vibey early-’70s Strat that still shares a lot of DNA with the late-’60s models, this one’s a great choice. Includes its original hardshell case.
